Rhesus Macaque Genome Project

Common Ancestor of Human, Chimpanzee, and Rhesus

Evolutionary triangulation: Genetic analysis suggests that humans, chimpanzees and rhesus macaques all evolved from a common ancestor. The macaque split off abut 25 milllion years ago, and humans and chimps diverged from their common ancestor about 6 million years ago.

BSCB researchers contributed to an international project to sequence the genome of the rhesus macaque and perform a detailed analysis of its evolutionary history. See:
